Obesity is one of the major health concerns globally. Obesity is identified with higher BMI unit and it causes many health problems. Increased BMI shows the increased risk of many non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders especially osteoarthritis, and cancer. Obesity does not only increase the risk of non-communicable diseases; it also negatively affects mental health. Also, a complex association between increased BMI and decreased quality of life. The purpose of the study is to find the impact of weight loss achieved through bariatric surgery or dietary counselling and its impact on the quality of life and long-term weight regain. MEDLINE, SCOPUS, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Cochrane Library and ScienceDirect databases searched for gathering the literature. This searching was undertaken from November 2018 to December 2018. Forty-six articles which could be considered to be acceptable for inclusion criteria of this systematic review. However, four studies remained after the detailed reading of the full texts that fit the inclusion criteria of this review. Bariatric surgery operations were found to be more successful in weight loss in obese individuals. Comparison between individuals who have undergone bariatric surgery and individuals who have received dietary treatment showed obese individuals who received diet therapy regained more weight in the long term. significant improvements were observed in the quality of life of patients undergoing bariatric surgery for the first six months to one year after surgery. However, it is reported that these improvements in quality of life did not remain the same in the long term and that the quality of life of the patients reverts to their initial levels regardless of being patients surgical and non-surgical groups.
