EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTS OF PLANNED TRAININGS GIVEN TO OBESE ADOLESCENT GIRLS ON HEALTHY LIFESTYLE BEHAVIORS AND MENSTRUAL SYMPTOMS: A RANDOMISE CONTROLLED TRIAL
 
Objectives This study aim is to evaluate the effects of training given to obese female students in mid-adolescence period for improving nutrition, physical activity, and menstrual symptoms on the improvement of their healthy lifestyle behaviors and menstrual symptoms. Methods The research sample consisted of 128 obese female students. In this randomized controlled trial, pretest-posttest control group and random process were used. Personal Information Form, Healthy Lifestyle Behavior Scale II (HLBS-II), Menstrual Symptom Questionnaire (MSQ) and Student Follow-up Schedule were used as data collection tools. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics 23 Version. Results Before the training in terms of HLBS-II score was t=-0.123 p=0.903 whereas this difference was t= -1.190 p=0.236 after the training. There was no statistically significant difference between total HLBS-II scores of the groups (p>0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the total MSQ scores of obese female students (p<0.05). The difference between the groups was t=-0.101 p=0.919 before and t=2.761 p=0.007 after the training. Conclusions planned training contribute to adolescence girls period to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors and to improve their menstrual symptoms.
