COMPARISON OF URIC ACID TO HDL RATIO BETWEEN PATIENTS WITH OBESITY AND MORBID OBESITY

Aim: High uric acid and low HDL cholesterol were known as predictors of coronary artery disease. Also, the Uric acid to HDL ratio (UHR) is known as a predictor of metabolic syndrome and diabetic regulation. Obesity is closely related to coronary artery disease and diabetes. Therefore, we aimed to compare UHR between patients with obesity and morbid obesity. Methods: A total of 167 patients with obesity who were admitted to the cardiology outpatient clinic between 2017 and 2021 were enrolled retrospectively.Patients divided into twp groups as obese (BMI 30-40,n=76) and morbid obese (BMI>40,n=91).Lipid profiles, glucose, uric acid, and UHR were compared between the two groups. For all analyses, a two-sided P-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. SPSS V20 (IBM SPSS Inc., Armonk, NY) was used for all statistical analyses. Results: The mean age of patients was 44.93±12.37 in obese patients and 45.41±14.04 in morbid obese patients (p=0.263).HDL levels were similar (p=0,16) in the two groups. Uric acid and UHR were significantly higher in morbidly obese patients (p=0,046 and p=0,023, respectively). Conclusion: UHR is significantly higher in morbid obese patients than obese patients. For this reason, these patients have a higher risk for inflammation, atherosclerosis, and diabetes, and aggressive risk reduction is essential.
